NIKON D300, Nikon 12-24, HDR in Photomatix
Pittsburgh has a special place in my heart as I am an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. So it is always enjoyable to visit the Burgh! I usually get out once or twice a year. I was there this past week and had a free morning before my flight and woke up early to catch some photo opportunities.
Beautiful churches are another great subject for HDR. The dynamic range is usually wonderful! You just have to hope you can use your tripod quickly and get off a few shots! This morning it was early and I traveled to the University of Pittsburgh. The Heinz Chapel was my goal. I had about an hour to shoot whatever I could.
The doors luckily opened at 8:30 AM this morning and it was quiet…a perfect time to take the above photo. Inside any building or church – use a wide angle lens – it gives you a great feel for the room! Here is a little info from the web:
The Heinz Memorial Chapel began as a gift. Henry John Heinz, the founder of the H.J. Heinz Company, wanted to honor his mother, Anna Margaretta Heinz, with “a building” at the University. Mr. Heinz, who died in 1919, arranged to do that in his will. Mr. Heinz’s three surviving children added to his bequest to memorialize their grandmother and honor their father. The children were guided in their choice of a memorial by the concepts of education and religion, concepts with which Anna Margaretta Heinz imbued her children. Ground was broken for the chapel in 1933, the cornerstone was laid in 1934, and the building was dedicated in 1938.
The Heinz Chapel is a great for weddings…Im sure many couples in the Pittsburgh area have been married at this beautiful location. As for this photo it was taken on a tripod, cable release and 5 exposures – post processed in Photomatix. Hope this photo enlightens your day!
