Last nite was the first Supercross race of the season! Every year it is held at Anaheim. They typically have 2-3 races year during the season at Anaheim. Race 1 is always the most anticipated! Gates open at 12:30 PM and the event starts at 7:30 PM. We arrived to watch the practice and the races ended at 10:30 PM. A full day of great racing!! I am a big fan of SX/MX. The colors of the bikes/riders added into super sports action is a photographers dream!
I ended up taking 945 photos yesterday! This was my first Supercross event using my new D800. I was eager to see how it would preform during the nite racing. With my old D300…I had no chance of taking any nite photos. Too much noise in the photos. The D800 was awesome!! The photo above was during the main event. We were sitting about 2 rows back form the track. Sweet seats!! The only downfall of the D800…BIG file sizes! 945 photos = 33 GB! Ouch!
This was the first photo I processed….cant wait to see the rest!

From a race earlier this season in Anaheim…this is Ryan Villopoto. If you have read Places 2 Explore for a while…you know that I am a big Supercross/Motocross fan. I try to go to at least one race a year. Photography and SX/MX are meant for each other. I’ll give Ran Villopoto his due…not my favorite rider (that’s Dungey) …but he is tough to beat this year. Looks like another SX title in 2013 with only 2 races 2 go. Kudos RV2!
We live about 20 mins from Disneyland and as soon as we moved here…we picked up Season Passes to Disney. This includes CA Adventure. I have yet to get there and HDR the park. I will soon. I have to pick a nite and go later when the crowds are lower. Maybe next week? I really enjoy Cars Land and this section of CA Adventure where the Wold of Color is held. Look for some cool photos soon! Technology is great…you can download an app that gives you estimated wait times. My favorite is “DL Maps” …its free!
If you have been reading P2E for a while, you know that I am a huge Supercross/Motocross fan. One awesome sport to watch, attend or photograph! Last nite in Anaheim was the season opener for the Monster Enegry Supercross season. I was super pumped as now living in SoCal I can attend Anaheim 1 every year. My father-in-law and I braved the chilly 54 degree nite at Angels Stadium. Yes, that is chilly for us! LOL We had great seats and went early to watch the practice. I brought my 70-200 lens and a teleconverter to get some extra reach. I ended up with 1800+ photos! It was a great nite with some surprises. Above is the first photo I processed. I’ll have more in the future and will try to put an extra kick on them. Ken Roczen is my favorite 250 rider….he finished second last nite in the main event. A nice corner action shot from A1!
I have been working on my HDR backgrounds and found a super cool spot near where I live….it is called The Rinks. I went to scout it one day after seeing picture online and walked in and loved the wood roof!!! Perfect for HDR. I went back one morning at 4:30 AM and shot it before an Ice Dancers practice. Yes, the Ice Dancers had practice at 4:30 AM….now that is commitment!! The shot above was from the center of the rink…fisheye style!! (Sorry not Gangham Style) The curve of the roof in fisheye was cool!! I always like any sports arena in fisheye!
I just posted an HDR Composite using the upcoming release of the standard HDR from here…this shot is of Ana from the Lady Ducks. Ana was amazing posing for this shot! Thanks Ana!!
As for my HDR Backgrounds…for those that may not know…I have been selling my HDR’s as digital downloads on my site Talke Photography for a few months now. These can be used for portrait backgrounds. Also very soon Denny Mfg. will be selling my HDR backgrounds as well!! The backgrounds at Denny Mfg. can be digitally downloaded or made into a backdrop! Since not all the backgrounds can be made into backdrops, the balance of my HDR’s will be sold on my site! Both locations have exclusive HDR backgrounds.
Where to buy Peter Talke Photography HDR Backgrounds –
1. Talke Photography – digital download only
2. Denny Mfg. – digital download and option to buy as a backdrop (Coming soon)
As soon as they are released as Denny Mfg…I will let you know. Should be within the next week or so! This is what the web page will look like…
Hopefully it is not too confusing. My HDR Backgrounds are for sale right now on Talke Photography!!! I’ll put one more write up again when they are released at Denny Mfg.!!! Thanks!
I took an early extended lunch today with my wife to go see the Space Shuttle Endeavour fly over Disneyland. The objective was to capture that iconic shot…Disney Castle + Jet/Space Shuttle. We arrived early and the park was filling up. I think most of CA today was taking off to see the last flight of Endeavour before it rests in Los Angeles. I heard streets all over were like parking lots and some businesses near the routes were charging for parking. Today was California’s fly over day. We arrived at the Disney Castle around 10:30 AM. We heard it would fly over at 11 AM. Time kept passing and no Shuttle. Luckily this one guy near us (NASA fan based upon his T-Shirt) had one of those special radios and gave us frequent updates. The past few weeks in SoCal has been hot and today it was another toasty one…so every passing minute…was not easy. I’d guess near the castle a couple thousand were gathered to see the shuttle. The kept announcing, “In a few minutes, the Shuttle will arrive and fly over the castle”…everyone clapped! 15 minutes after the first announcement, they said it again…everyone groaned this time. LOL People are classic. Finally we had news it was minutes away! No one had a clue which way it was going to fly over. Everyone prepped their cameras and looked toward the castle. How cool would have it been if the Shuttle flew right over the castle…what a picture that would be!! The all of a sudden the jet appeared! Not over the castle, but way in front of it! We all had to turn our heads over our shoulders to catch it! It was basically way in front of the castle. Ugh! You had to act fast. I think the min MPH of the jet had to be 375 mph. Probably in 5-7 seconds it was gone!! I zoomed in and grabbed the shot above. As it flew away I zoomed out and caught it flying over Space Mountain (below). Kinda ironic! LOL After waiting nearly 2 hours…the shuttle was gone. Everyone around could not believe the flight plan was to fly this way and hoped it was on its way back for a second flyover? We all waited and then heard the news it was already heading up north. Kinda sad. All the people were unhappy…we all wanted to get “that iconic shot”. No luck! I posted on my FB page…maybe Tinkerbell blocked the flight path over the Castle? Oh well…not the shot I was hoping for…but we did witness history!!! Hope to see the Endeavour up close in LA next year!!
My first visit to DisneyLand and California Adventure was this weekend! I went with my girls and we had a blast. Our first stop was CA Adventure to see the new attraction…. Cars Land! I loved both movies and visiting Radiator Springs would be classic! They did such an incredible job. Our first stop was the Radiator Springs Racers. Its the top attraction in Cars Land. 6 people per car and you take a track around Radiator Springs and even race another car. I’ll admit it was fun! The only tough part was that we arrived at the park a little after 10 AM. It took 2 hours of waiting in line to get to the racers! Whew!! Its new…so that was to be expected! Afterwards we stopped in a few stores…Sarge’s Surplus, Ramone’s House of Body Art, Radiator Springs Curios and had lunch at Flo’s Cafe! It was great to see they do not sell hamburgers and hot dogs there…healthier meal choices…I had steak and potatoes. Delicious! But of course…not cheap! (Its Disney). There are a couple other rides in Cars Land. We just walked around an enjoyed the sights. Also you can pose for a picture with either Lightning McQueen or Mater by the Cozy Lane Motel. They are life size and real. Kinda cool! Cars Land is def fun…we will go back often…we purchased a season pass and look for more pics someday soon!!!
