Innsbruck, Austria – Swarovski Crystal World

Crystal-World-SW_TalkeInnsbruck, Austria is a small city in that reminds me of a storybook. Surrounded by breathtaking mountains and at this time of the year, snow still tops some the mountains and the hilly countryside is green and beautiful. Sometimes when you look, it seems surreal. Must be an amazing place to live! We arrived last week and had a little time to see some sights. We decided to stop in at Swarovski’s Crystal World. About 20 mins from downtown. It was a beauty of a day and I had always wanted to capture the “Giant” of Crystal World” at the entrance of the tour.

I’ll post a few pics from inside soon…but if you want to see a video I took with my IPhone of the entrance….please visit my Facebook link here…Swarovski Crystal World

Innsbruck, Austria – Infrared

From the picturesque city of Innsbruck, Austria. I woke up early this day and took a few pictures from my hotel room before leaving for the day. Innsbruck is a lovely city surrounded by beautiful mountains. Flying in is like a dream and walking around the city is amazing. Best time of the year is spring when there still remains snow on the mountain tops while it is lovely down below.

Innsbruck, Austria – Blue Hour Downtown (HDR)

Innsbruck, Austria is a beautiful city surrounded by picturesque mountains. Very stunning and a super place to visit! I can see why they had the 1976 Winter Olympics here. I arrived one late afternoon and walked around the downtown area at nite. As you can see not many shops were open and it was quiet. A great time to take pics! The blue hour gives it a cool feel! I love the one train track that just stops and ends abruptly on the street. Cheers!

Innsbruck, Austria – Airport Video

I have never posted a video on my blog…this is my first. I was recently in Innsbruck and while walking to my plane (yes that is my prop plane!) to this vid with my IPhone. This is my fav airport in the world to fly in/out of…just unreal mountain views (especially when snow is on the mountains). Here is a shot from out my window flying in. Photo via my IPhone and Camera+ App to add the effect.

Hope you enjoy! I will be working on some video reviews coming soon…with a better camera! =) Have fun!

Innsbruck, Austria

Last year during my yearly visit to amazing Innsbruck, Austria…my wife, daughter and I took the tram up to the top of the surrounding mountains.  The tram just opened up to this location within the past year.  It was a nice 60 degrees in the city this day and up at the top of the mountain it was about 30 and chilly!!  With some fun snow!!  A bit scary when you look over the edge on certain viewing platforms.  An amazing experience…kinda like you are on top of the world.   Innsbruck is know for the 1976 Winter Olympics.  It is a cute little city…and also my favorite airport in the world!  You fly in on these small Austrian Airline planes with props.  At the right time of year..snow cap mountain are in all directions.  Then you see this little valley ahead and that is Innsbruck!   You get out of the plane on the runway and mountains are all around.   Very surreal!

Here is some info from the web:   Imagine having lunch in town, browse the shops, – and then change to a mountain restaurant for a leisurely afternoon coffee. In Innsbruck this is reality, thanks to a total make-over of the rail and cableways leading up to Nordpark, a Mecca for skiers, snowboarders and hikers right on Innsbruck’s doorstep. According to the Innsbruck Nordkettenbahn Ltd, the company responsible for this ambitious construction project, the ride from the city centre to an altitude of 2,300m takes just 20 minutes.

Section 1 has just gone into operation, with two gondola cable cars taking passengers from Hungerburg to Seegrube and Hafelekar. This means fast access to the Nord-park’s winter fun for skiers, snowboarders and sun seekers alike, to its extreme down-hill runs for pros, off-piste slopes for nature lovers, pipes and backcountry for boarders and freeriders, as well as the sun terraces for those who love to just lounge in the sun.  Thanks to the careful adaptation of the upper and lower terminus buildings, which date back to the 1920s, the new mountain link provides an unusual and interesting contrast between state-of-the-art technology and architecture of special historic interest. At the Seegrube there is a choice between a self-service buffet area and an upstairs restaurant with breathtaking panoramic views of the town and surrounding mountains thrown into the bargain.

Innsbruck, Austria – city view from Bergisel

Innsbruck

NIKON D300, Nikon 18-200

I travel to Innsbruck every year for business. Its a lovely small city in Austria.  Austria is filled with great cities: Innsbruck, Vienna and Salzburg.  If you are a skiier…Innsbruck is for you!  Take a look at those mountains!  Last year they opened a tram to the top…we went up in May.  It was spring in the city and snow up at the top!   This photo was from a location called Bergisel Hill.

Flying into Innsbruck airport when there is snow on the mountains, is possibly the most beautiful inbound flights in the world.  The city is surrounded by amazing moutain ranges that go on for miles and miles.  Unfortunately, most flights are prop planes and the ride can get bumpy…but well worth the view…make sure to get a window seat.

The so-called Battles of Bergisel were four battles fought between the forces of French Emperor Napoleon I and Bavaria against Tyrolean militiamen and a few Austrian soldiers at the Bergisel hill nearInnsbruck. They occurred between 12 April and 1 November 1809.  At the top of the hill now you can find the famous ski jump from the 1976 Olympics.  We went there and had lunch at the top of the ski jump and this is the view of the city below.  I do enjoy visiting Innsbruck.  It is always a very small plane ride in from Germany or wherever I am coming from.  Enjoy.
