Austin, Texas – Photowalk

Yesterday we had a photowalk downtown in Austin with a different style….using models.  This was set up by my friends Alex Suarez and Steve Wampler.  At this time of year it is fun in Austin…SXSW is going on.  Even last nite..Apple opened a spot store and was selling IPad 2’s for it new release.   We had about 11 photographers and 2 models.  We split up into two groups…Canon shooters and Nikon shooters….due to using flash equipment.  We basically used one flash.  Our Nikon setup was using either a pocket wizard that we shared or shot commander mode using a mounted flash on a monopod shooting through a Westcott umbrella.

We walked around and shot all around the 6th street area from 5:30 until 8:30 PM.  We all had a blast.  The model above is named Eight.  She was incredible.  She posed and had no problem working with us for the whole time.  Kudos Eight!   We walked in this back alley and I thought it might be cool to get the Frost Bank Tower Building in the back of the shot.  We all sat on the ground looking up and snapped away!  Might be my fav shot of the nite!

Thanks to Alex and Steve…that was awesome!  Such a fantastic photowalk!  As you may have read from me in previous posts…the future of Talke Photography is portraits. A photowalk like this is key to experience.  Priceless indeed!  I had a blast.  It is amazing how much work a photo shoot is.  Carrying all your gear and being wary of people.  But all fun!!!

Austin, Texas – Capitol Building (Infrared)

This past Saturday was the Scott Kelby Photo Walk 2010.   I lead the group on a downtown Photo Walk.  We had a wonderful turn out and I had a chance to meet some existing friends and some new ones!  Photo Walks’s are great…everyone usually has a camera and tripod…so you fit right in!!  Skills vary from the beginner to possible a pro!  My 6 year old daughter even joined the walk for a bit.  I think we even had a 3 year old out there taking shots!  Whether you were shooting standard, HDR, IR, Macro, Street photography…it was a perfect nite!   Not too hot for Austin…about 93 degrees.    We lasted till 9:30 PM.  A few of us walked down in hopes to see the Bats at sunset, but they decided not to fly out.  Possible weather patterns or babies are being cared for?  Not sure, but we did get a few shots from Congress Avenue at the blue hour.  I set up a Flickr Group for our Photo Walk for those that might want to see our shots.  It may take a few days for it to fill up…so check back often.  We met up afterwards and it was great to chat and compare shots.  Everyone has a different “Camera Eye”…to see the world through another persons point of view is what photography is all about!

I didn’t take many shots this nite, but did get a chance to shoot a few infrared photos before the sunset….this is the Capitol Building from a different point of view.  I’ll gladly teach anyone about IR…just shoot me an email!  If you were at your local Photo Walk…how did it go?   Have fun!   I’ll get another Photo Walk together next year in Austin….this time at UT Campus!

Austin Holiday Photowalk 2009

On Sunday Dec 13th – we had the Austin Holiday Photowalk.  It was wonderful to meet everyone and we all had a great time.  About 40 people attended and it was a perfect sunny 72 degrees out for our walk.  Some good friends and local photographers Jim Nix (Nomadic Pursuits) & Dave Wilson (News and Views of Dave Wilson), Andy (ATMTX on Flickr), etc.. joined our walking group and I met quite a few new friends as we shot together for the afternoon.  We were downtown from 4 PM until 7 PM and met up at the Driskill Hotel at the end.  For those of my readers that are not in Austin…I created a Flickr Group “Austin Holiday Photowalk 2009”.  There you can find shots from the attendees.  I’d like to plan another Photowalk in the spring for some flower shots!  Let ya know more details when I come up with a location!  If you were at the walk and want to post your website/blog…please feel free to add it to the comment section below!  Thanks for coming!  Hope to see you again soon!  Here are a few shots I took…all HDR except the last shot of the Capitol Building Closeup was with Topaz Adjust.  1) Driskill Hotel  2) Driskill Hotel  3) Capitol Building Doorknob  4) Congress Avenue  5) Capitol Building Closeup
