Frankfurt, Germany – Skyline (HDR)

Frankfurt Skyline_Talke
I was in Frankfurt last week stopping over for the nite on my way home. My hotel was a few blocks from the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and 3 blocks from the bridge in the skyline shot. At this time of year…sunset is around 9:15 PM…I had to get up early in the AM…so I anxiously awaited blue hour to arrive. Finally finished at 10 PM. Always nice visiting Germany. The beer is the best!!

Munich, Germany – Theatine Church (HDR)

Munich Church_talke
From the lovely city of Munich, Germany…if you walk around Marienplatz you can find some great architecture. A few churches, shopping, the Rathaus and much more! Hop off the U-Bahn and walk about 1/4 mile and you come across Theatine Church. Hard not to find it due to its yellowish exterior color. The outside is tough to photograph…tight quarters. Inside is the best option! Not many church interiors look bad in HDR. Enjoy your Thursday!

Wildcats Team Poster – Composite

Team Poster_Talke
This recent composite is one of my favs…it is my daughters softball team. It is our first season of softball. Def a fantastic sport for girls. We have a great team and coaches. While watching the games every weekend I had recent thought about a “Team Poster”. Once the background was complete…the fun part was to get the photo session complete in mid-season. This past Saturday I brought all my gear (I’ll post the list below) and set up a white backdrop clamped onto the backstop. I do not use green screen. It can cause a green hue for composites. I had an hour to photograph all the players as they warmed up before the game. We got it in and I processed for about 3 hours Sunday AM to complete the poster. Now its time to order some prints or vinyl banners!!! I really enjoy doing these posters….hopefully I will have a chance to photograph more teams in the future! Such a great keepsake!

Gear List:
Nikon D300
Nikon 70-200 f/2.8
Denny Mfg Freedom Cloth – White backdrop
2 – clamps (purchased at Home Depot)
Paul C Buff – Einstein 640W Strobe
Paul C Buff 36″ Octa
Paul C Buff Vanguard Mini Battery Pack
Manfrotto Stand

I used the Octa straight on to the subjects…I had the camera lower and slightly to the left. The Einstein are amazing lights…so much power! Beautiful even light! I am ready to give up on my hot shoe flashes!!

Pasadena, CA – City Hall (HDR)

Pasadena City Hall (HDR)
Pasadena is a famous city in California. It is know for the Tournament of Roses Parade and the Rose Bowl. My favorite spot is Old Town Pasadena.

Here is some info from the web: Old Town Pasadena spans 21 blocks downtown. It boasts upscale retail shops and a wide variety of restaurants, nightclubs, outdoor cafés, pubs, and comedy clubs. “One Colorado” features renovated historic architecture that attracted the new retail stores and restaurants. This development filled vacant buildings and was the impetus of the revitalization of Old Town on Colorado Boulevard. Paseo Colorado is an upscale shopping mall designed to be a modern urban village. An open-air mall that covers three city blocks.

It is a wonderful place to eat, shop and photograph. Here you can also find the City Hall. A beautiful building as you can see above. Look for more pics soon! Enjoy!

Inside a Nikon Lens

Nikon Lens
If you are a photographer and wonder why some lenses are more expensive than others…its the glass. Fast glass will include better quality optics and usually more elements. This equals a higher cost. Will you get better quality photos with better lenses? Simple answer, yes. My bag contains a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8. If I compare that to my Nikon 18-200 f/3.5-5.6….not even a battle. Years ago, I started only buying fast glass. This does slow my purchasing, but the wait is worth it. Next on my list is the Nikon 85mm f/1.4.

The photo above is courtesy of “N Photo” magazine. A magazine that is for Nikon owners and it has wonderful pics and nice info for beginners to experts. You can download the iTunes app here N Photo. And check if it is still valid…you might get one issue for free!

San Clemente, CA – Pier (HDR)

San Clemente Pier HDR
While shooting our XMas card in San Clemente at the Pier, we finished early and I took a few HDR’s of the pier at sunset. I’m thinking of making a run of SoCal pier shots over the next year or so and possibly making a photo e-book? I’m a big fan of piers in HDR’s. Might make a cool coffee table book in my studio one day??

This shot above was a different angle and a “Photoshop Action” to give it the tone. I have learned to enjoy actions. If you use NIK or onOne…relatively about the same output…but there are so many more actions out there! Google “Photoshop Actions”…you can buy some cool ones and find some for free!
