Frankfurt, Germany – Skyline (HDR)
I was in Frankfurt last week stopping over for the nite on my way home. My hotel was a few blocks from the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and 3 blocks from the bridge in the skyline shot. At this time of year…sunset is around 9:15 PM…I had to get up early in the AM…so I anxiously awaited blue hour to arrive. Finally finished at 10 PM. Always nice visiting Germany. The beer is the best!!

Frankfurt, Germany – Frankfurt Cathedral (HDR)
From downtown Frankfurt, Germany while walking around downtown…I stumbled across Frankfurt Cathedral. Quite impressive and many visitors! Some info from the web…
Frankfurt Cathedral is the main church of Frankfurt and was constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries on the foundation of an earlier church from the Merovingian time. From 1356 onwards, emperors of the Holy Roman Empire were elected in this collegiate church as kings in Germany, and from 1562 to 1792, emperors-elect were crowned here. The imperial elections were held in the Wahlkapelle, a chapel on the south side of the choir (Hochchor) built for this purpose in 1425 (See the Plan to the right) and the anointing and crowning of the emperors-elect as kings in Germany took place before the central altar–believed to enshrine part of the head of St. Bartholomew–in the crossing of the church, at the entrance to the choir (See the Plan to the right).
It has been recognized as symbol for the national unity of Germany, especially during the 19th century. Although it has never been a bishop’s seat, its was it was the largest church in Frankfurt and its role in imperial politics made the church one of the most important buildings of Imperial history and justified the use of the term (imperial) cathedral for the church since the 18th century.
Between October 1943 and March 1944 the old town of Frankfurt, the biggest old Gothic town of Central Europe was destroyed by six bombardments of the Allied Forces. The physical devastation of the old imperial town was intended to reduce public support for the war. The greatest losses occurred on the 22nd of March 1944. Over one thousand buildings of the old town, the most of them being half-timbered houses were destroyed. The cathedral suffered severe damage and the interior was burned out completely. The cathedral was reconstructed in the 1950s.

Frankfurt, Germany – Flughafen (Airport)
From the very cool Frankfurt Airport…this area is located near the DB (Deutsche Bahn) long distance trains. Looking to head to Berlin, Zurich, Prague? Book your reservation and make sure you have a designated seat! Many times I have booked my reservation without a seat #. I have had to move around and even one time sit in the area in-between the train cars….oh so comfortable! My favorite are the ICE trains with the dining car! Always nice to stop by get and grab a frankfurter while on the ride! I really wish we had a nice train system in the US. I love traveling by train in Europe. So beautiful! The effect of the photo was helped by “Urban Sickness” filter on onOne’s new and amazing Perfect Effects plug in.
Frankfurt, Germany – MyZeil (HDR)
I was in Frankfurt the past week for work and had a Sunday afternoon to shoot around town for a few hours. My standard technique to to plug in “Frankfurt” into Google and/or Flickr and find some cool locations to photograph. While searching I came across a place called My Zeil. What a cool looking place! The German Designers rocked this location!!! This design is for a shopping mall in the heart of Frankfurt! It had this super cool glass front with a circular hole that twists inwards…like a black hole! I’ll post this hole shot soon!
Inside is a beautiful curved glass configuration with many floors! You can even take an escalator from the first floor all the way up to the fourth floor. This shot is from the fourth floor. I really liked the curve of the roof in this section. A great spot for photography! I took about 30 shots here…I’m sure I can find much more. But I had to be on my way to grab more city shots. Info from the web: The MyZeil is a shopping mall in the city center of Frankfurt. It is part of the building ensembles PalaisQuartier and forms in which access to the Zeil shopping street. It was on 26 February 2009 during a public presentation of Frankfurt’s Mayor Petra Roth officially opened and recorded according to press reports on the first day 120,000 visitors. Because of massive interest visitors were admitted to the first few days only in phases, at times the queues at the entrances. After two weeks, the brand has exceeded one million visitors.
The MyZeil is on six floors with one of the longest escalators in Germany (46 meters Ruhrmuseum tapped Zollverein 58 meters. The gross floor under the vaulted, with about 3,200 triangular glass-based structure is 77,000 square meters, to retail in the bottom three floors account for about 52,000 square meters. Anchor tenant in the basement are bullet is a Rewe-Markt (food), Anson’s (menswear with many leading fashion labels) to three Part bullets and (in the third / fourth floor Saturn electronics and home appliances market) to 7500 square meters. In the upper floors there is a ‘gastro-boulevard “with restaurants, a fitness club (Fitness First), with height and a spacious pool games and care for children. The total of nearly 100 shops were rented out to open about 97 percent, however, not all related. The square meter price expected to amount to a record high of up to 485 euros.
