From the lovely San Mission Capistrano in Southern California…here is one of the walkways around the stunning grounds at the mission. As I have had a few posts from here before…one perfect location for wedding/portrait shots! I can imagine a session right here! What makes a cool location like this…HDR! Grab the texture in a shot here will give the photo life! HDR’s are not just for landscapes these days…why not add it into portraits as well!
In photos like this..it always can become a battle of color vs B&W. This one is even! Here is the same shot converted with a little hue…which one would you choose?
I just finished dinner and logged onto my blog via my IPad. I was amazed at the new look for my blog! Sweet! I checked both my phone and Mac..no change. So I assume WordPress had an update today only for IPads/Tablets. Great job!!! You can swipe and view the blog just like Flipboard. Ah technology! I love it!!!! Check it out if you can! Just read this one WordPress:
With the launch of Apple’s iPad we have seen the future of computing and it is touch. Nothing matches the visceral feel of navigating your digital world with your hands. The past four months we’ve been working closely with Onswipe to bring your iPad visitors our vision of what a blog can look like re-imagined for a touch experience.
Our iPad-optimized view is app-like in its functionality, but pure HTML5 goodness on the backend: it supports touch interactions, swiping, rotation, and many other features of the iPad. Like when we launched our smartphone-optimized WP-Touch integration in 2009 (now responsible for over 150 million page views a month) this is immediately available and active on the over 18 million blogs on WordPress.com.
There are some fun options to play with too. If you browse to Appearance -> iPad in your Dashboard you can:
Have the theme use an image from your recent posts as a cover.
Upload a logo to showcase your brand or personality on the cover.
Upload an image to be used as a loading graphic when visitors add your site to their home screen.
Choose from 9 different skin colors, to best match the feel of your site.
I love to watch and play sports. But one sport unfortunately I have no time for is golf. I get to play once a year for a charity event…I am not good at all. My short game is decent, but driving is my worst area. If you cant get off the tee properly..might as well forget it! One day when I am retired I will try to master this game. In the meantime, I will stick with basketball and tennis! During our last visit to Palm Springs I went out early in the AM and grabbed some IR shots. While walking back to the hotel around 8 AM…I passed a golf course and saw these people warming up before they golfed for the day. Just a simple classic golf shot…I do like that you can see the guy with the hat’s golf ball in mid flight! If you are a fan of golf…tough not to travel to Palm Springs and golf all day and hit the pool and restaurants at nite! Palm Springs is all about relaxing! Typically you can finish up your golf game in the afternoon around “Fore!”. LOL
It feels good to post an IR shot! Been a few weeks. Sorry for keeping them aside for a bit. Here is an IR from the lovely Leu Gardens near downtown Orlando. I had fun shooting IR that day. It is where I took my first IR Wedding shots! I just received my new converted IR “Super Color” camera. I did some test shots in my backyard. So different! I’ll run out this week in the late afternoon and try few shots. You will see it here first! Have fun!
On Saturday afternoon, we took a drive downtown to attend SXSW. That stands for South By Southwest. An Annual Music, Film and interactive conference held in Austin, Texas. This year it was held March 11-20th. It just ended yesterday. If you are a fan of live music…you can head downtown and see many bands. From possible big names to unsigned bands…and all in between! I always keep my ear open for any of my favorite bands coming to town. This past Friday and Saturday…one of my favs is a band called Juke Kartel. They were playing at BD Riley’s Pub on 6th street. My wife and I decided to head down and see them play!
They were doing an acoustic set and only 3 of the 5 members made the trip. Toby Rand – lead singer / Dale Winters – Guitarist / Tommy Kende – Bassist came to play a 30-45 minute set. For those that may not know JK…I’d consider them a rock band. Comparisons are always tough to make…so you just have to listen and make your own opinion. They have some excellent tunes… Some of my top choices…
1. Save Me 2. Throw It Away 3. If Only 4. My Baby 5. Firesign Levolution is their most recent album…you can find it on ITunes. They also have 2 videos available on ITunes…If Only & Brightest Star
We hit it early and Toby, Dale and Tommy were just hanging out at the bar. It was wonderful to chat with them all…they were so nice to us and I think they will go far in this business. They are focused on making it big and work hard at reaching their goals. The key to success!! I asked Toby if it was ok for me to grab some pics. He said no problem. Armed with my 50mm f/1.4 and and mounted SB-600 with a Flash Bounce Diffuser….I took a bunch of shots and tried not to get in anyones way!
JK put on a great show and was gracious to all that attended. They even mixed in a Doors tune with their hit “Throw It Away”…a highlight for me. The pub was packed and lots were listening outside on 6th street. Hope they make it back next year! Kudos JK!! Hope to come see you guys at a show in LA one time (this is where they are currently residing) and often play at the Whiskey. If only we live for the moment!
You can check out some extra pics on my Facebook site….Talke Photography In the meantime…here is one more shot…I gave it that “Rock Album” look:
I took the afternoon off yesterday as it is spring break here in Texas. We took a drive up to Fredericksburg to go see Enchanted Rock. From our house…its about 2 hours. We arrived and the line was so long to get into Enchanted Rock…every one was turning around. We did the same and proceeded back to the town. On the way we saw an entrance for a place called Boot Ranch on Route 965. We googled it and it looked nice….and decided to drive in to check it out. We were met by a front gate. Unfortunately, this place is a members only golf, fishing canoeing, tennis, hiking, rock climbing activity location. So we could not get in.
But on the way before the gate are a few open areas and we saw these guys hanging out by the fence. They are our local Texas Longhorns. This is where our University of Texas (in Austin) gets its name…The Longhorns. Also, you can see the color as well….burnt orange. Which in my area is a fav color to wear! These fellows(?)…were curious about me and were only a few feet away. I assume they though I had food…sorry dudes, only a camera. The one on the right reminds me of my daughter after taking a few shots…having that “ok, are you done taking pics yet?” look. LOL Have a great weekend!

My daughters shell collection in HDR! How many of us over the years have walked the beach and collected shells. You find a great one one and you are excited to show everyone! Kinda like photography! You take a great shot and you are happy to show all! I am always looking at stuff we have in our house and thinking if it might be cool to HDR. I bet we all have lots of options! Have a great weekend!
