Pittsburgh, PA – PNC Park (HDR)

PNC Park HDR _Talke
It is almost spring…that means baseball season is getting near! Most of us our still buried in the snow…it seems like forever til the weather will clear. Don’t worry, first pitch will be here before ya know it! Good luck to the Bucs this year….my favorite team had an amazing run last year! Go Pirates!

Pittsburgh, PA (Infrared)

Pittsbugh IR_Talke
The view of Pittsburgh, PA from atop Mount Washington in Infrared. Not a winter photo, but taken in the middle of the summer! I gave it the old time look for the classic “Burgh” shot.

Pittsburgh, PA – Heinz Chapel (HDR)

from Pittsburgh, PA…the coolest church you can find in the Burgh…Heinz Chapel! Located on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. This shot is from the grounds walking up to the church. I added a painterly texture to give it a cool effect. Enjoy your day!

Pittsburgh, PA – Immaculate Heart Church (HDR)

From Pittsburgh, PA, the Immaculate Heart Church located on Polish Hill. A beautiful and stunning church in the Burgh! This day I was shooting all over Pittsburgh with Dave DiCello (HDR Exposed) and Mike Criswell (TheaterWiz). We were HDR’ing everything in sight and while driving we saw the dome on the horizon and went up the hill. We ventured in and had a blast shooting inside!

Some info from the web: Immaculate Heart of Mary was founded in 1897 as a Polish ethnic parish. Beginning in 1885, Polish immigrants began settling on Herron Hill in Pittsburgh. Eventually so many immigrants settled there that the area was renamed Polish Hill. At first the residents attended St. Stanislaus parish in the Strip District, but by 1895, the population of Polish Hill grew to the point that a committee of local citizens petitioned the bishop for their own parish. Permission was granted and the cornerstone of a combined church, school and convent was laid in October 1896. The completed building was dedicated in August 1897.

Pittsburgh, PA – PNC Park (HDR)

Baseball season is almost upon us! As a Pirate fan, this may be the first year I have a bit of hope since 1992! We have a great young lineup and may have a chance to break the 18 consecutive losing seasons. I am a true fan and will cheer on my Bucs no matter what! Our hopes are no the World Series or the playoffs…we can dream..but just to be a winning team! I wish them luck this year!! Go Bucs!!

Pittsburgh, PA – Cathedral of Learning (HDR)

One of my favorite cities to photograph due to my love of its sports teams…Pittsburgh. This day I went out with my good friend and fellow photographer, Dave DiCello. You can find his blog here.. HDR Exposed . He has tons of great shots of the Burgh!

I told my wife one day we have to live here for year so I can go to all the games..Steelers, Pirates and Penguins! ..probably when I am retired. The Photogs in the Burgh have tons of places to shoot…the city, sports parks, bridges all over the place, steel mills, old and abandoned buildings all over! HDR heaven!

One super cool place you must stop by to HDR first if you ever visit is the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning. It is the perfect spot to HDR! Dave and I went early this day before classes started and it was nice and quiet! The kids probably had too many Iron City Beer’s the night before! Enjoy the photo!

If you are a photog and shoot HDR’s my HDR techniques have been evolving recently and I have a few new tricks. The shot above and a few recently have utilized these new methods. I still use Nik’s HDR Efex Pro…but its what I do in Photoshop that helps! I’ll do a post on this soon! Have fun!

Pittsburgh, PA – Color vs. B&W vs. Grunge

Not sure who wins…all are solid!!

or a grunge look…

or even the trifecta look…all 3 shots combined..

This find was thanks to Brad Truxell….I saw his cool shot from the Burgh and we had to find it! Thanks Brad!!

Pittsburgh, PA – PNC Park (Infrared)

Its been a while since my last IR post. I am still working on my IR Photography book for Focal Press. It is still on schedule to be released 1st Quarter 2012. I will keep you posted. This shot is from PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA. I was walking to the stadium and decided to try it in IR. The ferry was cruising by and it adds to the Burgh feel! My Pirates faded quickly since July and now are outta the playoff race, but I def enjoyed those few weeks we were in contention! PNC Park is one of the most beautiful parks in MLB! …even in IR! =)

Pittsburgh, PA – Early AM (HDR)

Pittsburgh is one super photographic city! When shooting with Dave DiCello and Theaterwiz (Mike Criswell) recently…we hit the city at 5 AM! The North Shore was the target for sunrise. We were walking riverside and I saw Dave down on this seating area and as he was around the corner…I grabbed this shot. A foreground subject with the Clemente Bridge and the city in the background. Not only do I need to move to the Burgh one day to see all my fav sports teams, I better get my hard drive ready for tons of pics!!
