Philadelphia, PA – Eastern State Penitentiary – Capone’s Cell (HDR)
Here is the luxurious cell for Al Capone. Capone spent most of his prison life at Alcatraz, but did spend 8 months at the Eastern State Penitentiary. From 1929-1930. I asked the tour guide this day why he had the only comfortable cell? She replied that is unknown, but just as he arrived an anonymous donator gave some big funds to the prison. They had new baseball uniforms and a cell Martha Stewart would be happy to have! LOL My last post form here for a while. The next shot will be “locked up” for a a month or so!

Was that really what the cell looked like during his stay, or was that added for the “tour?”
So, he paid off the Warden? Was that why he was transferred to Alcatraz?
I went on the Alcatraz tour and don’t recall seeing something like that in his cell there? Then again, I was young and don’t recall.
Another great shot!

Crazy wall texture in this shot. That would not be a fun place to spend even an hour in.

Those 3 extra mm you had were much needed in that tight space. Love the feeling of the people behind you breathing down your neck as you compose your lens through the small opening! Great shot Pete as always Top Notch!!!

John, let me know how it goes! I caught an ep of Ghost HUnters from there before I went to get the 411. Cell Block 12 was the most ghostly! …that block is only for tours! Have fun!

I love incongruity in an image; and it certainly is present here! The texture and peeling layers of paint/concrete bring you back to the “you’re here to stay reality”. Love the reflection in the mirror!
